Damage Claim Policy
What to do if something is damaged during your move
Last updated: September 6, 2026
Our Commitment
Kingston Movers handles your belongings with care. While we take precautions to prevent damage during your move, this policy explains what to do if something is damaged and how we handle claims.
Reporting Damage
Please point out any visible damage to your belongings or property before our crew leaves, so it can be noted right away. If you discover damage after unpacking, let us know in writing within 48 hours of your move. Claims reported after that window may not be eligible for review.
When you report a claim, please include:
- Clear photos of the damaged item or area
- A short description of the damage
- Your moving date and addresses
- A copy of your invoice, if available
How to Submit a Claim
Send your claim details to hello@kingstonmovers.ca or call us at (613) 555-0123. We'll confirm we've received your claim and let you know the next steps.
Inspection Process
We may ask to inspect a damaged item before approving repair, replacement, or compensation. Please hold on to the item until your claim is resolved. If a damaged item is discarded before we've had a chance to inspect it, we may not be able to process the claim.
What This Policy Doesn't Cover
This policy doesn't cover:
- Pre-existing damage
- Items you packed yourself
- Fragile or high-value items not disclosed to us before the move
- Internal damage to electronics that isn't visible from the outside at delivery
- Perishable goods or plants
- Cash, jewelry, or important documents
- Normal wear on particle board furniture
- Damage caused by furniture that was improperly assembled before we moved it
Your Responsibilities
To help your move go smoothly, please:
- Prepare your items properly before move day
- Tell us about fragile or high-value items before the move begins
- Check your belongings at delivery, while our crew is still there if possible
For high-value items, we may suggest arranging additional insurance coverage separately.
How We Handle Approved Claims
We review every claim fairly. Depending on the situation, we may repair the item, replace it, or offer compensation based on its condition, age, and current value. Compensation is limited to what's reasonable given the item's actual value at the time of the move, not its original purchase price.
False or Misleading Claims
Claims that are intentionally false or misleading will be denied, and we reserve the right to take further action if needed.
